The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right

Doctor. Gawande acknowledges that this guide matured away from their 12 10, '07 Fresh Yorker report, "The Checklist". We think that will, for most readers, it could be a better use of his or her time and money you just read this content (that's available on the web) instead of the book. Even though the guide, just like Generate. Gawande's previous books, will be well-written, the author's important results can simply be summarized in a site (and have experienced several reviews).

* Whether you're in the medical industry or otherwise not, you'll take advantage of the inspiring thinking and insights.

* This book is game changing - a call-to-action for generating better results regardless of the pull to operate with intuition or gut instinct. If you are implementing via intuition as opposed to a systematic process, this book's message will force you to pause with your tracks to get an even more disciplined approach.

* Mcdougal utilizes a great deal of industries to create his case utilizing an engaging blend of anecdotes, storytelling and research - from healthcare to aviation (US Airways 1549 landing in Hudson River) - - to high-end highest rated restaurants - - to building massive office skyscrapers and shopping centers - -to generating a Van Halen rock concert - - to FEMA's response to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans - - to money managers making investment selections.

* Might be read in 1-2 sittings. Page Turner. Fully engaging and riveting before last page is turned.

* Author's determination, authenticity, inspired thinking, modesty and willingness to disclose personal mistakes makes this an inspirational book. Both brilliantly written and a pleasure to learn.

Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child

This was an excellent book - I am unable to tell you simply how much this book helped our sleepless, colicky infant. But, several friends with non-colicky babies actually recommended this for almost any infant. This book is a fantastic middle ground for all those parents who do not require a severe schedule (BABYWISE) or opposite end in the spectrum, attachment parenting (Dr. Sears).
It turned out the sole book which i found out that spoke knowledgeably about colic, and gave the only real helpful advice available on the topic (keep in mind that, we used it all). It is not a cry-it-out book, even though some may see it in this light. What it really shows you is that this: 1. view your child. 2. put him/her down to sleep when you first begin to see the warning signs of tiredness 3. most children under A few months tend not to stay awake more than 2-3 hours at a time without needing a nap. 4. Don't simply put your youngster into nap when you feel like it - that's just letting him/her cry, not TEACHING them to sleep. 5. Most children have to go to nap at night prior to when you'd think. 6. Sleeping earlier promotes later sleeping (weird, but true. Because the author says, it is not logical. It's biological - sleep promotes sleep) There is a lot more too. I enjoy that the author's details are based on studies that they has been doing regarding the patterns of children who naturally sleep and nap well. No, it didn't give us a great baby. We happen to have an extremely sensitive high strung girlie, who also power-naps. But we went from your cranky post-colicky baby who took no naps or 15-20min naps but got up more often than not per night with a sweet smiling girl who now takes 3 45min-1 hour naps each day and sleeps from 6pm-7am (waking Double to nurse). Indeed. The nursing. She used to think that nursing was the best way to rest. After diligently pursuing the advice in this book, she can now fall asleep on her own, no nursing. Not that it's perfect - she still cries 5-15 minutes at times before naps. But she actually is sooooooo much happier now. Gotta think something's working.
